About Journal
The Journal of Pharmaceutical Chemistry (JPC) is an open-access, peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to advancing fundamental and applied research in pharmaceutical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and the chemical sciences underpinning drug discovery, development, and optimization. The journal aims to provide an international platform for researchers, academics, and pharmaceutical scientists to disseminate high-quality original research, innovative experimental and computational methodologies, and critical reviews that advance the understanding of chemical principles governing the design, synthesis, characterization, analysis, and biological activity of pharmaceutical compounds.
The journal welcomes original research articles, research communications, and review articles across a comprehensive range of pharmaceutical chemistry disciplines, including medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical organic chemistry, synthetic medicinal chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, bioorganic chemistry, stereochemistry, reaction mechanisms, structure–activity relationship (SAR) studies, quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) modelling, lead identification and optimization, pharmacophore development, and molecular design of bioactive compounds. Particular emphasis is placed on research investigating the relationships between chemical structure, physicochemical properties, molecular interactions, biological activity, and therapeutic potential.
JPC encourages research on the discovery, synthesis, purification, isolation, and structural elucidation of pharmaceutical compounds, including small-molecule drug candidates, bioactive natural products, synthetic analogues, pharmaceutical intermediates, metabolites, and chemically modified therapeutic agents. Relevant studies may employ advanced analytical and spectroscopic techniques, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry (MS), and chromatographic methods, to establish molecular identity, chemical purity, structural integrity, and stability.
The journal also welcomes research in pharmaceutical analytical chemistry, encompassing the development, optimization, validation, and application of analytical methods for drug identification, quantification, impurity profiling, degradation-product characterization, stability-indicating analysis, and pharmaceutical quality control. Research addressing pharmaceutical degradation pathways, forced degradation studies, drug–excipient compatibility, solid-state characterization, polymorphism, crystallinity, solubility, dissolution behaviour, and physicochemical properties influencing drug performance is particularly relevant to the journal's scope.
In addition, JPC supports interdisciplinary investigations at the interface of pharmaceutical chemistry and computational science, including density functional theory (DFT), quantum chemical calculations, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, molecular interaction analysis, computational prediction of physicochemical properties, and computer-aided drug design (CADD). Such studies should provide meaningful chemical or pharmaceutical insights and demonstrate appropriate methodological rigor, validation, and interpretation. Computational investigations are especially encouraged when they clarify molecular reactivity, electronic structure, binding interactions, structure–activity relationships, or the chemical basis of potential therapeutic activity.
Other relevant areas include natural product and phytochemical drug discovery, pharmaceutical biochemistry, chemical biology, drug metabolism and metabolite identification, prodrug design, pharmaceutical cocrystals, salts and solvates, medicinal inorganic chemistry, metal-based therapeutic agents, pharmaceutical nanomaterials, and chemistry-driven approaches to drug delivery and formulation development. Studies involving biological evaluation are welcome when they establish a clear connection between chemical structure, molecular properties, and pharmaceutical relevance. Research involving pharmacological testing, biological materials, or experimental subjects must comply with applicable ethical standards and regulatory requirements.
Through its focused emphasis on pharmaceutical chemistry, JPC seeks to strengthen the connection between chemical synthesis, molecular characterization, analytical science, computational modelling, and pharmaceutical applications. The journal aspires to contribute to the rational design of drug candidates, the improvement of pharmaceutical compounds, the development of reliable analytical methodologies, and a deeper understanding of the chemical foundations of therapeutic agents, while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across pharmaceutical chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, and related scientific disciplines.
